Belhaven University Junior Cello Recital

As I think about my last year at Belhaven, I’m thinking about how excited and blessed I am to be where I am, growing in what I love. I’m excited for another year of performances on this stage where I’ve played and grown so much over the past three years. I’m thankful for this summer and for the time I have to prepare for the upcoming year… I have a feeling that it’s going to be amazing!

Rebekah Grace Miller, is a senior cello performance major at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.  Rebekah’s love for cello and classical music is exhibited through solo and string quartet work, ensembles, orchestral engagement as principal chair with the Belhaven University Orchestra and the First Baptist Jackson Sanctuary Orchestra.  She also plays regularly with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. Rebekah is the cellist for the Belhaven String Quartet which won the Mississippi State MTNA competition and went on to win third place in the Southestern Division MTNA competition held in Lynchburg, Virginia in January 2018 and regularly has performed in Best of Belhaven.

During her first three years at Belhaven University, Rebekah has been asked twice to solo with the Mississippi All-State String Orchestra, and been awarded with an Exemplary String award. Most recently, she was recognized as the Exemplary Musician and Performer at Belhaven University. This award acknowledges both her skill and her work as a performer, as well as her Christian character and influence both inside and outside the classroom. In February 2019, Rebekah received the Kingdom Transformation Award during the 2019 Belhaven University Honors Convocation. In 2019, Rebekah also won the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs competition, placed second in the 2019 National Federation of Music Clubs competition, and received the Exemplary String Award at Belhaven University.

A long time student of Nancy Bateman,  Rebekah has studied and played the cello for thirteen years with true passion and zeal to hone this craft in her own playing as well as the playing of her students.  Rebekah’s training has included numerous master classes, competitions, participation in the Premier Orchestral Institute, as well as, in the Mississippi All State Orchestra.

Her love for family, friends and her Savior is evident in every aspect of her life and is experienced by the listener as she performs. Identified by several local musicians as the finest young cellist in this area, she invites you to follow her as she prepares to leave Belhaven and take the next steps in the journey God has laid out for her.
