Belhaven University Junior Cello Recital

About

Rebekah Grace Miller, completed her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance degree at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi in May 2019. Rebekah’s love for cello and classical music is exhibited through solo and string quartet work, ensembles, orchestral engagement with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Belhaven University Orchestra and with other orchestra and ensemble engagements throughout Mississippi. Today, she teaches private cello lessons, leads group ensembles, plays for weddings and other community events, and continues to work collaboratively with her peers in the Mississippi Symphony and at Belhaven, loves being in the recording studio as a part of collaborative projects, and is involved in worship leadership in her local church.

While at Belhaven, Rebekah was principal chair with the Belhaven University Orchestra and the First Baptist Jackson Sanctuary Orchestra.  Additionally, Rebekah was the cellist for the Belhaven String Quartet which won the Mississippi State MTNA competition and went on to win third place in the Southestern Division MTNA competition held in Lynchburg, Virginia in January 2018 and regularly performed in Best of Belhaven.

During her years at Belhaven University, Rebekah twice soloed with the Mississippi All-State String Orchestra, and was an Exemplary String award. Most recently, she was recognized as the Exemplary Musician and Performer at Belhaven University. This award acknowledges both her skill and her work as a performer, as well as her Christian character and influence both inside and outside the classroom. Rebekah received the Kingdom Transformation Award during the 2019 Belhaven University Honors Convocation. In 2019, Rebekah also won the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs competition, placed second in the 2019 National Federation of Music Clubs competition, and received the Exemplary String Award at Belhaven University. Rebekah was also selected by audition to perform in the Honors Recital at MasterWorks Festival in July 2019.

A long time student of Nancy Bateman,  Rebekah studied and played the cello for over 15 years with true passion and zeal to hone this craft in her own playing as well as the playing of her students.  Rebekah’s training has included numerous master classes, competitions, participation in the Premier Orchestral Institute, MasterWorks Festival, as well as, in the Mississippi All State Orchestra.

Her love for family, friends and her Savior is evident in every aspect of her life and is experienced by the listener as she performs. Identified by several local musicians as the finest young cellist in this area, she invites you to follow her as she prepares to leave Belhaven and take the next steps in the journey God has laid out for her.
